There are many reasons people come into our office. Some people are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety or other mental health issues that are interfering in their ability to function well in their day to day lives. While others come in because they have work-stress or family problems and don’t know where to begin or how to sort things out. There are various factors that contribute to anyone feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Whatever has brought you here, we will work together to identify how you define progress and success and determine what obstacles are in your way. We use evidenced based approaches to mental health in order to effectively help you find your way to healing, transformation and positive change. We work with individuals (adults, teens and children) and families in counseling and we are here to help!
Teens face a unique and exciting developmental milestone that brings with it many challenges for them to manage, and for parents to help them with. Teens’ worldview is changing, their interest in the ideas of peers and the world-at-large are growing as they are beginning a process of “individuation.” Individuation is a process that involves organizing, shaping and reshaping ideas about identify, values, and interest. At the same time teens are becoming very invested in finding their place in the social structure of peer groups around them. The challenges of this stage of development, coupled with hormonal and biological changes, adversity from the past and present can make this period of time really hard for teens to navigate.
Whatever your teen is struggling with, we are happy to help! We LOVE working with teens and are invested in supporting and helping them to overcome the many challenges they face. From managing emotions, to managing interpersonal or family relationships, to managing school pressures or peer pressures, to dealing with impulsive behaviors or feelings of being overwhelmed, to struggles with self-esteem and self-confidence, we are here to help!
We provide a non judgement and supportive space for teens to explore the challenges they are facing and learn effective stragtegies to cope.
Some areas where we help children:
During our work with children, we communicate regularly with parents to keep them informed of their child’s progress. If there are any tools or techniques we teach in a session, we share them with the parents to reinforce them at home with their child. We believe a collaborative approach with parent involvement is necessary for the best outcome.
Couples come into counseling to address a variety of issues but most often one of the fundamental issues that needs support and improvement is communication. Couples counseling is an opportunity for you to focus your attention on improving the dynamics and quality of your relationship. Counselors consider your relationship and the quality of your relationship as the ‘identified client,’ while considering each partner as part of the relationship system. Each partner may be contributing to their relationship system in helpful and unhelpful ways.
Throughout the process of counseling, partners gain insight, effective tools, and experience effective and fulfilling interactions to enhance the quality of their relationship. Clients may also identify personal issues that need individual attention in order to enhance their functioning in the relationship system. Using evidenced based protocols, counselors are able to support successful outcomes. We encourage you to consider Couples counseling when you are struggling with communication, conflict, and overall satisfaction in your relationship. There are things you can do and there are ways we can help!
