Individual and Relationship Issues

We work with individuals and families in counseling.  We are here to help.  There are many reasons people come into my office.  Some people are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety or other mental health issues that are interfering in their ability to function well in their day to day lives.  While others come in because they have work-stress or family problems and don’t know where to begin or how to sort things out.  There are various factors that contribute to anyone feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

Family therapy often becomes a valuable option for people struggling with issues that consistently become exacerbated in the dynamics of a relationship within their family.  There are many factors that can greatly strain the relationships in a family: addiction, betrayal, poor communication, and ongoing conflict, among others.   We are all motivated to experience peace, harmony and a better quality of life.  Through the process of individual or family counseling one can identify the obstacles in their way, the dynamics at play, and learn ways to change their perspective, and/or responses in order to enhance these goals.

“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change.
As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him…
We need not wait to see what others do.”

Couples Counseling

Love can motivate us to do incredible things.  And when things are not going well, the pain can be overwhelming and begin to affect all other areas of our life.  Communication is a key to improving the way we can relate.  But it’s more than communication that makes a loving and lasting relationship, it takes friendship and teamwork.

All couple’s experience conflict. The difference between those that succeed and those that struggle has to do with how they approach conflict, (and this is where communication comes into play).  I am here to help you navigate the places you have found yourselves stuck and support you in finding ways out.  After years of couple’s counseling and individual counseling I completed The Gottman trainings Level 1 and 2.  This method of couple’s counseling is based on over 40 years of researching couple’s who were “masters” and those who were “disasters.”

Out of this research the Gottman’s created many therapeutic interventions that focus on specific components of communication and on the relationship that contributed to success and failure. What makes their findings unique in comparison to other approaches and research is that they discovered that friendship was a key component to the success of a relationship and that good communication alone could not sustain two people in love.
