TEAM

Kimberly Woolery

M.S., BCBA, RMHCI

My name is Kimberly Woolery and I have been a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) since 2013. I am also a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. I originally started in the mental health industry working with neurodiverse children in a paediatric occupational therapy clinic in 2012. I have provided behaviour analytic services via Telehealth for the past 9 years for children and adolescents struggling with behavioural challenges. I have provided services to help children acquire language and communication skills and social skills. I also help teach emotional regulation skills, coping skills and relaxation techniques. I also provide Clinical Behaviour Analysis, where I utilize ABA by applying techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to treat individuals with depression, anxiety, stress and other behavioural challenges.

My goal as a therapist is to help you shed social expectations, silence your inner critic and gradually learn how to develop self-acceptance. Together, we will collaborate to explore your emotions, how to process them in a healthy manner and learn coping tools to manage your anxiety and stress. My style is compassionate, empathetic and non-judgmental. Life often throws things at us when we least expect it, and my goal is to help you navigate these challenges with compassion and grace.

I am a Culturally Sensitive Therapist, which essentially means that throughout the therapeutic process I will look at how your values and beliefs may have affected your perception of mental health challenges. This may also make you afraid to take the next step. You may be experiencing internal conflict between the attitudes, beliefs and values of your parents’ culture while having been raised in an environment that is completely different. This may lead you questioning identity, leave you feeling displaced and can often bring up feelings of guilt and shame. You may also feel immense pressure to succeed due to your parents’ sacrifices. This may lead you to ignore or suppress your own personal struggles. On the flip side, you may feel an intense pressure to “assimilate” and fit into US culture, but learning to adapt to what is “acceptable” and mainstream at the expense of losing traditional values.

Having been born and raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica; I also understand and empathize with the challenges immigrants experience and how it can feel like we never truly fit in or adapt. My goal is to help break down these barriers with you and provide a space for you to let you know that it is okay to prioritize your needs and wants. However, I believe that we all have the capacity to thrive and heal once equipped with the right coping tools. Your experiences and feelings are valid, despite what others may have told you. If this resonates with you, it is time to reclaim your life as your own.
